Thanks Stuart. Hadn't thought of sealant as lube during torque sequence. I really don't want to do this. It will be a "Hail Mary" if I do. I'm 90% sure I'll leave that can o worms alone.

Tyler: AFAIK, there's no need to re-torque head nuts once head is properly installed. Looking further in Bentley manual, interesting to see that theres pages on "Cylinder head resealing". I don't see any note there about re-torque after X miles.

Why I'm considering head nut torque check, possible re-torque:

engine is likely leaking compression to coolant possibly due to head(s) is "lifting off" when under load at higher RPM. The leak may also be happening on hotter days during long periods in stop/go traffic. In that case it may be a "self fulfilling prophecy" sequence of events. Engine runs hotter, metal expands more, metal seal between barrel and head leaks, I hear bubbles coming up pipe to expansion bottle, coolant level in fill bottle rises....
