Searched some more. On the samba, a contributor mentioned doing warrantee work on weeping WBX head nuts. My guess is VW supplied then with an updated "yellow" sealant for that job. Ben (benplace) uses The Right Stuff as a nut sealant with the comment that it needs to cure properly. Dennis Haynes comments here look great: http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind1305D&L=vanagon&P=R2354 Of note, it seems VW updated the final torque value to 41 ft lbs but then with old case studs..... < shrugs > Since the drain bolts on my engine are not seized, clamping off hoses to/from engine and draining coolant at engine should suffice.

The "good" type expansion tank blue cap (at least I think it's the better type of cap) I'd installed to originally cure the "gurgling" problem, has failed in less than 2000 miles.

I'll be holding off on re-torquing resealing the head nuts until I get a nice dial gauge torque wrench. My 30 YO Craftsman beam wrench may not be accurate enough.

Neil.
