Your bearings are shot, which means a full rebuild or engine swap/conversion. You can try straight 50 weight oil for the summer, but your time is limited. Your OP is still okay as long as those are the numbers for a fully warmed up engine, like after 30 minutes at 65 mph. Given the flicker, I'm guessing they won’t be that high.

With my 1.9 hot I have 7-9 psi at idle and 16-18 with Red Line 20w-50, and there is a Subaru awaiting my $$$ in the garage. At startup it goes to 60 psi at idle, and in about 10 minutes drops to the above numbers.

The 1.9 isn't as prone to throwing rods as the 2.1 is, but it can once you start hearing rod knock. Drive carefully, but a new engine is in your near future, it's waving the red flag! Rebuild it while you still (hopefully) have a rebuildable core.

My classic article on this for your reading pleasure: http://volksweb.relitech.com/21rodbrg.htm

I knew the day was coming…so, the flickering oil light didn’t go away with SAE40 oil (avg temps have been ~90 every day since my flicker started), stretched spring, blah blah blah…

So I did the unthinkable and bought an oil pressure tester…my woes have been confirmed with ~6-7 PSI @~850 RPM and about 16 PSI @ ~2K RPM…you all know the drill I am sure…

My question is…next steps?

I was thinking of inspecting the oil pump first and then go from there…

Thanks for any input…
