The South African T3 came with a 5-cyl. You can use that bellhousing to install the older generation VW and Audi 5-cyl onto a Vanagon transaxle. I have an Audi 5-cyl in my '88 Doka. But I converted to an auto so an adapter plate was necessary. The newer crop of 5-cyl engines probably have a different bolt than the early engines. I can't confirm that yet. It's should be noted that the Volvo diesels from the early 80's to early 90's are VW LT engines. Same goes for the 924 and 944. They may now for the engine compartment but will bolt on to the SA 5-cyl bellhousing.
