My sneaky trick is to use a pilot bearing removal tool and a slide hammer to pull oil pumps. You can remove the gears and then insert the pilot bearing removal tool into the hole in the center and expand it. Two or three slide hammer wacks later the oil pump is out with no damage to the case. Not sure what it would do to the oil pump but I am assuming that you are replacing it anyway so who cares.
