Hi John,

From a layman’s perspective having too much oil can do a lot of damage as well…If you do suspect that you’re low, there are cans that contain a bit of refrigerant AND an oil charge…would be up to you on how much to put in and not overcharge your system…

The noise that I’d be more worried about would be the hammering sound of the compressor coming apart :-D ask me how I know- just replaced one on a mini van with 273K miles on it…thankfully it didn’t completely come unglued and pollute the whole system...

I just did a google for “PAG oil charge” and came up with stuff @ Advance Auto Parts…among others…
