Had mine sold to a couple who looked at mine about 4 years ago. They said
yes to full price. I apologized but said I needed a night to come to terms
with this and fully consider to part with Grumps. I phoned them later that
night and said "I'm so sorry but I can't do this".
It just felt so wrong.
Grumps and I have put on many miles since then.
He wasn't happy that I even considered it and it was touch and go for
awhile there.
I'm a lifer. Not everybody is but I am.
Having said that last month was almost the end of the road for this cowboy.
I was at a VW campout at Maple Valley WA. I walked into town and approached
traffic lights and pressed for walk button. As I pressed the walk button I
had the strangest sensation of disorientation.
Felt like something out of sync and a strange sense of unease. Something
felt very wrong but I did not know what.
The light changed to walk.
I hesitated and looked for traffic turning left.
They was none however I preceded more slowly than I usually would.
I took two steps and would never have taken a third. A woman in a half ton
truck turned toward me at a high rate of speed. I caught sight at last
second and backed away. I was shaken and had to return to light to compose
myself. I would have left that campout in a box had she hit me. Sometimes
the sixth sense or whatever you want to call is a lifesaver. It was for me.
I digress from the issue at hand Grumps and I have so much shared
experience that to consider a parting of the ways is not thinkable. That
day will come and with my 70th birthday this year it has to be getting
closer.
However I think he keeps me younger and I try to keep him in best shape
possible. We are in it together. As one bus pilot shared with me "my bus
will see me out".
