Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have experience with a 57 Splitty, a 69 Bay and a 71 Bay. (The first year for disk brakes and the last for the Type I engine). I have no experience with Vanagons although I'd like to. VWs have always had unique quirks and maintenance issues. (valve adjustment, no oil filter, steering box, CV joints) Is that what you are talking about when you refer to problems? Or is there a more serious issue, i.e. engine and transmission design flaws?
