Since you are familiar with the early bus, you know that they have their quirks. The Vanagon also a quirky vehicle but overall a much better driving and handling vehicle than a bus. Sound deadening, higher build quality, modern seats, double the horsepower, the list of improvements goes on and on. I like the later model Vanagon with AC (works great!). If you don't care about Air Con the 84-85 passenger van can still be picked up pretty cheaply as an entry into the Vanagon world. I would avoid the air cooled or diesel version, and stick with the waterboxer as it is the more powerful and reliable version.

Welcome to the List. I lived in Chattanooga for about 5 years back in the 90s. If you need anything just let me know.
