I've got Karl's adapter and a TDI (Bosch # SR0409X) bolted up to my 91 Multivan's suby ej25 engine and highly recommend it as a very good stronger starter. The stock Bosch starter just wasn't strong enough to reliably turn over the higher compression suby engine.

I've got a writeup on my site at http://www.weidefamily.net Go to Suby Engine-3 <http://www.weidefamily.net/vanagon/HTML/06a/01/slideshow.html> > Stronger Starter
