Thanks Neil! I should also mention that my skylight was warped. I don't expect that happens that often.

Haven't had much precip since but I replace the gasket after finding one ~3" separation between the upper cushion and the lower piece that grasps the fiberglass. Since I didn't know that last Spring it is likely (and visibly apparent) there is a slight gap in one corner where the skylight seats on the gasket cushion. > > After more intense rain I should have a better idea of my situation. Except for something broken or damaged the usual cause for leakage is from under the gasket. The gasket over time will shrink and pull up and off the lip on the roof so water gets in from underneath. Remove the lift arms slide bracket so the cover can be fully lifted off and then remove and inspect the fit of the gasket. It likely will need to be replaced. You will see why. >> > >> > Dennis >> > >> > -----Original Message----- >> > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Neil2 >> > Sent: Sunday, September 18, 2016 5:36 PM >> > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM >> > Subject: Skylight leak >> > >> > Hey volks, >> > >> > Have you ever had a leaking skylight in your Westy? >> > Where was the source? >> > How did you remedy it? >> > >> > I'm trying to figure out how to seal it and thought I'd try foam along the convex perimeter, atop. I removed some clear RTV the PO used from around the fasteners last spring (it leaked a little beforehand) and wonder if that's the source. It now drips steadily from the operator housing which I think is catching it from the top itself. Seems a poor design since instead of having a convex perimeter on top it's concave, which simply catches the water and allows it to enter the cabin at the meniscus. >> > >> > Please/thanks! >> > >> > -- >> > Neil2 >> > '82 Diesel Westfalia (Ducky) >> > '86 Vanagon (SaVannah) >> > '08 170" 2500 Mega Roof Sprinter (Moby) >> > '90 Westfalia Subagon >> > Fulltiming since August 2008 >> > Nunquam Pendite Divendium > > > > -- > Neil2 > '82 Diesel Westfalia (Ducky) > '86 Vanagon (SaVannah) > '08 170" 2500 Mega Roof Sprinter (Moby) > '90 Westfalia Subagon > Fulltiming since August 2008 > Nunquam Pendite Divendium
