I just wanted to follow up with eveyone on this.

I just spoke to the service department at that Subie dealer in Bat City, MI

The Vanagon owners were able to source the parts they needed at the local O-Reilys and they are on their way to getting their bus repaired. I asked them to tell the owners to call me direct if they had any further issues or needed anything.

I know many here will have opinions on the Subie dealer being able to do this repair - I get that and I understand we own some old touchy vehicles - but I also think that some credit has to be given tot he fact that whoever is doing the job is a certified mechanic - and while our 1.9s and 2.1s can be finiky beasts, they aren't alien technology either :)

ANyhow, thank you all who replied and provided your wisdom and offered som assistance. I'm hoping things go smoother for these folks from here on out. If not I will surely keep you all posted.

P.S. - Todd Olsen (if you are still on the list) - I was sure to tell the service center that they had to use G-11 coolant miced 50/50 with distilled water and bleed the system. Thanks buddy.
