I think these are pretty much the same from one year to the next, but just in case - mine is a 1991 Carat. The cable guide at the bottom of the window operating unit has come out of position. I have three window units, and all three seem to have the same problem, so evidently this is a pretty common fault. The top and bottom cable guides a plastic of some sort - teflon maybe - and are not worn or broken it appears. Just out off position. Problem is, how to get them back into their proper slot. The window lift squeezes down on them and there are no screws to remove to move the lift so they can be released to put back in position. The lift is held by some plastic pieces that cannot be replaced. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue before. Rmoval of the entire regulator assembly is fairly stright forward. But the cable guide is a whole 'nother matter. I seek the experience of the Vanagon List members. Thanks! John |
