That sounds like from a front type AC. On later years I know, and on my '88 and Carat, the tunnel runs from the rear overhead all the way to the front distribution panel in the overhead. The plastic in that long tunnel would break under the weight under the weight and fall to the floor, usually at the most in-opportune moment. Two factory supplied plates to hold the tunnel solved the problem.
