I've done it twice. It's the easiest sealed window on the car. If your friend knows old school rubber seal replacement, you'll have no problems. You should be able to put 12v directly to the window contacts to see if the heater is any good, use a cheap digital thermometer to read it. I have never actually seen a bad one that I remember. I have a couple of good ones should you need one.
