I have been plagued with a number of new tanks that are somehow contaminated causing the screens to get clogged up. For one customer I went through 3 tanks and destroyed 6 pumps. Temporarily install a tee and vacuum gauge on the pump inlet and see what you have after a drive. You'll know if the tank is the problem.

We just got back from a 2 1/2 week trip from Atlanta to Niagara Falls, west across the north shore of Lake Huron, and back home through Michigan. Three days before our return the intermittent fuel pump noise that has been plaguing me for years returned louder than ever. According to GoWesty here: http://www.gowesty.com/tech-article-details.php?id=115, there can be three reasons for noise. I've replaced the fuel tank, fuel lines, and fuel pump. The last suggested cause is the fuel pressure regulator. I'd like to quantify the pressure before replacing the gauge just to verify there is a problem. If I don't, I could be hundreds of mile from home before I find out it wasn't the problem and the noise returns. Any suggestions on a good one to purchase? Also, should the gauge be left on a fuel line for a quick check or is that asking for a disaster?
