The hand pump types with a bottle would be less messy, but you need a 1/4" tube to fit into the crankcase with the dipstick tube removed. I was not able to get a bigger nylon tube down the fill pipe, and it enters the side of the crankcase anyway, which would make it difficult to get the tube on the bottom.
