Same thing happened to me. I think the hole actually was oval, I could twist it a couple of degrees but there was no way we could remove it. Muffler shop torched it out and welded a new bung in the pipe, all done without removing the pipe.

Get thee to a different muffler shop!

talking about stuck things and the such I have right now a stuck O2 sensor. I brought the van to a muffler shop they heat it up real good but it didn't move at all.. They gave up and suggested that I remove the pipe and gave it to them and they will try once more ... or get another pipe... yike ! ! !
