I began using cheap asphalt based home store stuff for sound deadener ten years ago. It's still there, as is the factory asphalt stuff from 33 years ago. Nothing has ever smelled, nothing has degraded Sound like some trolls are looking to see high-end deadener by scaring people away from a cheaper solution.

Here's a quote I snagged from the diesel vanagon group, and those guys should know:

"You should check out Cascade Audio Engineering in Bend Oregon...they have the best sound deadening products ive ever seen, things like lead laminated between two sheets of rubber. I

This is reputed to be the best: paint on, about 60 a gallon from QUIETCAR or QUIET ROCK"
