I don't know if they had been on this or another Vanagon Support Group while they owned their van. We first met them in a campground near Dease Lake, BC, Canada in June of 2012 while on the way home after retrieving our van from Daryl and Matt(AATransaxle) whom stored it for us before and after our road trip through the southwest in December and January. We were all stuck there that night as up ahead the Alaska Hwy was closed due to several washouts between the Alcan/Cassiar junction and Kluane Lake. Since then we cross paths once in a while as one of their kids was taking piano lessons from my sons teacher. You are right many people assume that Vanagons can just be driven and serviced without regard for the fact that the newest ones in the US are now 25 years old and will require more than just the fluids and filters newer cars do. Then again some people don't manage even that much I know of a two year old car with just over 30,000 miles that is waiting for a new engine to arrive because the based on the records provided its only had two oil changes, the second one happened one week ago.
