I did a similar install in the metal cover. It seems to be the best place for reading/ general illumination. I did decide to put in a couple of the GHE soffitte dome (overhead) lights from my old splitties. I'm still looking for the LED replacement for that 2 lamp light. Bus Depot was able to supply me with new dome light lenses and incandescent lamps which I will use until I find LED replacements. I know they are out there, and I really like the old lights. I'm a little surprised a few haven't chimed in on this one. There are folks other than me who have had busses back to the original ones.

Dave B.

On 11/13/16, J B<jbever@excite.com> wrote:

Hi David, sorry for the late reply as I don't check this list too often.

We're still very pleased with our warm LED lights above the rear bench after 3+ years of use. We use an IR remote to turn on/off and adjust brightness. At 25% power which is pretty bright for most circumstances it draws just over 1 watt and 6 watts at full power which is very bright.

http://1981vwcamper.blogspot.com/2013/11/more-led-madness.html

John.

-----Original Message-----
From: "David Bjorkman" [ddbjorkman@VERIZON.NET]
Date: 11/04/2016 06:33 PM
To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM
Subject: rear Westy lighting

I know it's Friday, but I wasn't kidding about the previous post "Rear lighting". I see lots of pics from knowledgeable folks about fancy lighting over the rear seat, so what's the easiest way? I'm currently looking at power from a 12V outlet I previously installed in the closet. BTW, are there extra bright, or choices. to replace the old splitty type GHE Soffitte lamps in those 2 light overheads?

Dave B.
