an infrared thermometer would help here. Measure temps at heads, big steel coolant pipe at driver side of engine etc. The cut in temps for the fan switch are in the Bentley manual.

Was (are?) there different temp thermo switches available? Pretty unlikely someone installed the wrong switch though. (e.g. got if from a FLAPS)

I'm sure our vendors carry the correctly rated switch.
