So, I got my five Vredestein Comtrac All Season tires, mounted, balanced at
Les Schwabb late this afternoon. I have only driven the camper from the
tire dealer to my house, some ten miles, at this point, but the vehicle
handled well in that time. The tires have an aggressive tread compared to
most all season tires I have seen (and they bear the mountain snowflake
symbol), and certainly compared to the Hankook RA08s that I replaced.
Their price was virtually identical to Tires-Easy, and includes lifetime
balance and rotation, and road hazard warranty, and I have a dealer to go
to if I have a problem. Flat repair and regular tire service is included.
As I related in an earlier post, the dealership offered me $25 per tire for
my 5 Hankooks, one of which has hardly been on the ground. The tires are 2
years old and have 6 thousand miles on them. I offered them on the list,
but did not try to sell them otherwise. I took the trade from Les Schwabb,
with the personnel there claiming that they probably made a bad deal, as
they doubt they'll be able to sell them. I told them that lots of folks
with Vanagons are looking for 14" tires, and that the RA08s are popular
with them, so that all they have to do is connect with that group.
So, if you need a set, they are there at the Les Schwabb dealer in Airway
Heights, Washington (a suburb on the west side of Spokane).
I'll report later on my experience with the tires, after my trip to
Southern California next month into January.
