Don. Would suggest that if possible in the BLM situation (BTDT), don't
be tempted to repair the grommet. I did this, albeit with fairly
flexible sealant. It didn't last in part because I'd shunted in a
piece of fuel hose to repair the nylon hose at valve. When re
installing the tank, the valve must've shifted around affecting any
repair I made to grommet. There isn't a whole lot of room between top
of valve and van body. Our vendors have that grommet and it's not much
money. And IIRC, the valve isn't too much either. Alternatively, there
is a Jeep grommet that can be used. Check the samba on that. A catch
22; the valve can get damaged when removing it from tank. Of note, the
tank itself can get soft at area where water/dirt gets kicked up from
tire.
