Don, when you say they mounted the tires backwards, please help me to understand. They are not described as directional tires, unless I failed to read correctly. But I will check mine. How would I know they were mounted backwards? You have had poor experience with Les Schwabb, can you be specific as to what they did wrong? I tried other vendors, they were the only local one who would order the Vredesteins for me. I do not like to buy tires from internet vendors. The price I paid was the best price I found, internet vendors included. At least there is someone I can go to if the tires fail, rather than having to deal with a distant vendor.

Glad you had good luck with the Comtrac tire on winter conditions. I will be driving from Spokane to Thousand Oaks, CA (and then to some outback locations in S California after Christmas) next month. Right now I plan to go from Spokane to either Portland or Seattle depending on weather, and then S on I-5, to avoid mountain driving as much as possible. I know, long way around, but may be safer. Since you spend a lot of the winter down there, perhaps you can give me some pointers about free camping and pleasant environs. We just want to enjoy the out and about while down there.
