Now someone else mentioned the thermostat as a possibility. So at cold start the thermostat should be closed and slowly open as engine warms up, right? IF it was stuck open while the car was still cold ( ie at startup) my assumption is cold coolant would be circulating back to the engine and not allow the engine to warm it before the thermostat opened as it usually does. I'm not clear how this would cause an intermittent rich running overload and almost stalling condition but this is where my knowledge of of the fuel injection system is limited. I also don't know how thermostats usually fail, when they do and do they stick open, or just not open all the way up as they should ?
