Well, you got me curious. I had a *quick* look at Bentley manual. Can't see the part you link to. I don't recall seeing it on my '81 slider door. Maybe an aftermarket improvement? I see it's listed for all model year Vanagons on van cafe. From van cafe description: "..... it is located at the end of the track underneath the sliding door cover panel on the outside of the van. " I'd think this bumper is for when you open the door. Thanks for that link. I didn't know van cafe had a section for the earlier Vanagons. Lubing the latch parts, roller tracks and parts may help.
