The Sears houses are still standing and lived in because they were well
designed, good quality materials, and if built by a decent builder, solid.
Lots of them in my home neighborhood of Oak Cliff in Dallas, built in the
early 20th century.
One of two of the giant national Sears distribution centers was also in
Dallas (the other Chicago). So, we could "mail order" from Sears, and pick
the merchandise up the same day at the warehouse. Big, six story
building. Still there, now converted to a modern apartment building.
The company is kablooie now, though. mcneely
