If you're using Outlook, check to see what the default "Send" type of message is. I believe outlook uses RTF. If it's RTF or HTML, it'll have the characters in it. Gerry's uses plain text format and one of the mail hosts somewhere is not converting it.

Try creating a message, then go to the options tab and select "Aa Plain Text" which is in the middle of the page on the top. That should remove all the crazy characters from it when it's sent.

This has no Vanagon content but it concerns the enjoyment of Vanagon List material.

The topic was discussed several years ago but I've not been able to find it in the archives. Maybe others are having the same problem.

Some Vanagon List posts appear as a block of random characters when viewed in archive mode. I feel I am missing much of the wisdom of the list because some of Dennis Haynes' notes appear to me in this manner. Someone please save me from this pit darkness and teach me how to view these notes on a Windows machine.

That's about it.

Thanks.

Ed
