Recently, while re-painting my slider door handle with satin-black rattle can spray paint (gorgeous by the way), I also added a few  6" x 6" squares of randomly placed Peel & Stick asphalt/rubber or whatever the heck it is roofing material (cheapo soundproofing material) to interior of slider door.  Since I already had partially removed the cosmetic panel to gain access to remove the screw that holds the slider handle.  So I could paint the handle. Anyway....man-oh-man!!!....was I IMPRESSED!  Instantly turned "hollow" sheet metal sound into a nice solid thunk.  Seriously.  Now I will only wake up half as many fellow campers upon early morning exit. I was so impressed, that I also added more of the Peel & Stick to the interior of my driver door sheet metal (since I was also re-painting that door handle); SAME result!!  Solid thunk!  I only had a partial roll leftover from putting the Peel & Stick material on front "firewall", seat pedestals, front floorboard so ran out of material; but I will do the passenger side interior door soon.

And NO...you don't have to cover the entire interior sheet metal....just some patches of material here and there stuck to the sheet metal....basically, as far as your arm can reach through available cutouts.  It's actually kind of a fun job!

Man, that stuff works!  Throws off all the harmonics and resonance or something.  Noticed that VW had added some adhesive "foam" or something (too lightweight to really be effective) to interior door panels from factory.....but methinks it takes a little "heft" like with the heavy asphalt/rubber/aluminum layers of the Peel & Stick to really do the job of reducing that hollow sound upon slamming doors.

I too did the HDPE tape in both of the tracks, top and bottom and on both sides of each track. The improvement was very noticeable! Smoother and quieter. Now I will be looking into this rubber bumpstop! Thanks all 84 Westy Patrick
