Subject: intermittent running rich issue
Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hi Guys,

90 2.2 gowesty engine

I've experienced an intermittent running rich / loading up condition condition. When I say intermittent, I've seen it say 4 times in the last 2 months.

It's always been on the warmup cycle after startup where the car starts fine, idles OK but begins to stumble and run rich on accelerating at some point soon afterward. It eventually goes away after the engine runs a while and warms up. The last time it happened, yesterday morning the car stalled and would not start. I left it off and re-tried after 10-15 minutes and it started right up and the issue went away.

Because this condition has been infrequent, I've not put much thought into it BUT am now considering the " Temp II " coolant temp sensor to be the potential problem source.

Am I correct in assuming that this is the likely root of the issue, maybe sending the ECU some out of bounds values ?

Should I replace it altogether, or clean the contacts and maybe add some dielectric grease ?

Thanks for any input.

-john
