My experience with the small one is it will roast you out of the van pretty quickly on nights at around 35 to 45. W usually even have our slider open and the curtain pulled shut, pop top up.

If we are in the low 30s to low 20s we close the door and lower the popper and it heats up fairly well. A fan mid way does great for getting heat to the back. Also be sure all the curtains are shut.

We keep ours by the pantry door or between the seats when running and move around as needed.

We shut it down at night. Turn it on on the morning just before getting out of bed. Nothing like coffee next to the "fireplace"

So I believe for size, weight and efficiency I recommend the small one. However haven't used the big one. Want to trade for a while?
