I've never gone wrong by adding a ground to a VW.

Each head light right behind the headlight plug.
From the starter lower mount bolt to the frame

Missed Beat & then Vroom ~ Before thinking

about Grounds I Misdirected toward the Ignition because of what seemed to
be a MissedBeat & found 1 Coil Terminal that

was Corroded & DarkColored so I swapped in a Spare Coil that I have & NoJoy
~ That is when the Grounds "Light" Lit in

My head & SureEnough That Was TheProb' ~ But I Do Believe SpareCoil is
Doing a NicerJob ~

        Also, Kinda Sorta Thinkin, that My HeadLights were Dimmer when
those 2 Grounds were Missing ~
