Good point...
A recent incident was with a friend of mine needing an evaporator replaced
in a hybrid vehicle. Their normal AC guy wouldn't touch it and referred
them to someone else because of the inherent dangers and untrained techs...
Did a quick google search and low and behold- seems if you or someone else
uses the wrong oil in a system using the newer electric compressors it
could create a shock hazard- electrifying the case of the compressor.
That and the normal run of the mill "stop leak" are unusable in these
systems because they require a new or different kind of oil.
I'm sure as we progress forward and these systems become more common we
will see products supporting that and mechanics trained and willing to work
on them- I'm more concerned about the used car market- or working on
someone else's car, blah blah...
As we drive and work on our aged vehicles that can't keep up on the
highway, I'm still blessed to be able to hold it together with rubber
bands, glue- i.e. A screwdriver and monkey wrench....and honestly I don't
even want to keep up.
