Simply put, I check the oil by draining it looking for any contamination, then put the tranny into the different gears to make sure the hubs turn in every gear without any rough feelings as I turn them...not foolproof, but you are comparing a person checking a tranny they have rebuilt to your used tranny...they should all else being considered feel the same...IMHO...

to determine a transmission if it’s broken or good, while it’s not installed? I have two of them and I would like to install one but, while they both engage in all the gears by hand, I have no way to tell they operate properly under working condition in the car. Maybe there is a way to find out it is good or not.  After all, how does a transmission guy know that his job is done well other than being installed and used.  Especially if it’s an automatic one.  Anyone has an input? Thanks for the Great List, Best wishes to all, Zoltan
