Thank you Steven, Paul and Alistair (your skill and creativity is amazing) did you keep the original heater? and yes the temptation is to put it underneath the van and have some anxiety cutting into the floor board. I don't want to put it in the console area (don't have the skill and want to keep this area clear)
The Westy is a 2 WD and I live in southern California. pete

I have the original Propex Heater (smaller one) placed under the bench seat
next to the OEM heater. If I had to do it again, I'd
place in the compartment where the breaker switch is next to the water
tank. (91 Westy). My reason for this is that the under
bench area is just to valuable for other things which I'd prefer area
for. I don't know if I will ever move it. But if I do it will provide
a space for a short height porti-potty so slide right in place under the
bench seat. Or possibly an hot water tank (heated with
a coil spliced into the coolant lines). These are my dreams. Other than
that, the heater works great. One of my better
investments for the camper.
I'm not detracting from the external mount option. I think that is a good
solution as well. But I think it requires a bit more
thought and material to be safely installed.
