I disagree.  He credits the VW origin of the poptop and does not seem to be trying to fool anyone.  This is no different from any other conversion out there attempting to improve the vehicle at hand.  Think Subaru engines in Vanagons, aftermarket hightops on Vanagons, Syncro drivetrains into non-Syncro Vanagons.  This guy has done what many others have done to get the van he wants using parts widely acknowledged to be the best for the job.  It may wind up neither fish nor fowl to many of us, but it might be what many others are dreaming of.
