Van has been running well but, the idle has been way up like 1500 in netural then it will drop down after a while to it's normal 700.

Today however, went to get a sandwich and went inside. When I left and got ready to start the van, it would just spin over. I tried several times then tried holding the gas pedel to the floor and that seemed to help, it sputered and then started. I drove home with no problems.

Any ideas what it causing this. This just stared with the high idle the last few days. I know itt is conneceted with the no start problem of today.

It is a 1987 automatic.
