Welcome to the list!  They're lots of fun.  Here's a place to start: http://www.vanagonauts.com/Things-to-do-for-new-vanagon-owners150.htm

At least this is a beginning.  Most important is Replace all fuel lines so it doesn't go up in smoke!   Good luck and safe trip, Dan89 Country Homes Camper - the Huckleberry Sky

Greetings folks!

Let me introduce myself. Hi y'all. I'm Laura. Im new to the forum/email list and to the world of vanagon ownership too. My partner and I just acquired a 1985 Vanagon, 4-spd manual. We bought our baby in Miami Florida while vacationing for the winter (visiting with family)

We're northbound to Pennsylvania for farm season in a few days, and this will be our first trip with the van.

I've had it in and out of the mechanic a few times since we bought it, having important things taken care of; new starter, radiator fan temp switch, ignition, oil change, coolant system flushed and bled. We also fixed a missing link in the coolant system and replaced the coolant pressure tank cap. It's now having a brake cylinder replaced and a wire (that serves the oil pressure light) replaced, as it was flickering and is burnt from exhaust contact.

Our van is empty in the back, no seats, no cabinets, nada. Our hope is to eventually find a rear bed bench and build some custom cabinets or find some westfalia cabinets.

If anyone has or knows of a place to find a rear bed/bench, rock and roll bed, z bed or whatever, please do share :D

Anyway.....Do you folks have any suggestions for things to check or have on hand or be ready for with our upcoming long trek and also any suggestions for routes or beautiful places to visit along the way from FL to PA. We plan to avoid major highways (I.e. I-95) and take a somewhat scenic route. We don't have loads of time for this trip as planting season is almost here!!! Yay spring.

Many thanks folks, Kind regards

Peace

Laura
