I've seen it done once, and it was terrible. The bostig components are top notch and engineered to work together. The wiring harness and custom tune alone is a work of art! I can't imagine dealing with those things on your own. A modified focus harness would certainly be doable, but it would be apples and oranges compared to the custom made harness with all new wire and all new connectors, sized to route every wire to exactly the Right place, that you get with the bostig swap. Every component is extremely top notch and works together well. If your dream is to do a comparable swap at less cost by building your own components, I believe it's possible to make the swap, I don't believe it's possible to make it in any way comparable, at less cost.
