I'm Gary Lee's website there is a link to some information about replacement hatchback struts, along with the OEM numbers for what we have, and a picture of a hatchback with an additional strut attached below the existing. I had thought that a stronger strut attached the lower might be a better idea, due to the small small connection of the existing strut's ball. It seems to me that relying on the old connection for the new weight might produce more wear and tear in a shorter period of time. I presented this question really just to see if there was already some discussion about it and see if there was a suitable modification that has been reached by others.

I believe that a new, longer, strut attached below the existing strut would aid in the weight bearing if for no other reason than the fact that it connects lower on the hatch and distributes the weight differently, rather, at a different angle.

What I'd like to know in regards to creating new attachment points is how solid it would be. Clearly a 1/8th inch machine thread Phillips screw would only bare so much weight. ;). Seems that there is a better way but I didn't want to have to repair my hatch after finding out I didn't do it that way. :) Roman
