Hi Laura,

We have very similar vans only mine is an 85 Automatic.

If you don’t have one yet look at getting a Bently manual. this will be a big help in the future. Keep it in the van!

It is amazing how quickly your knowledge of these vans will grow once you start loving the fun they bring to life.

Sorry folks

I have a 1985 Manual Transmission Vanagon. 2wd

Ken, thanks. do you think that is advantageous to replace the entire steering rack and pinion thing? that way i have both sides, brand new tie rods, boots and the new steering rack?

I would just hate to have to go in again soon, and replace the rest of the system...

I will check for a power steering res. now

love and kindness,

Laura

Be sure to include your van year and model in messages.

One way to check quick is to see if you have a PS resevore in the engine compartment in front of passenger rear light.

Also steering wheel is bigger for non Ps.

Others will have better tips.

Hey Y'all.

Im attempting to order a new Left Front Tie Rod and Boot, and turns out.... on busdepot.com <http://busdepot.com/> it seems like i can only get the steering rack, which includes rack and pinion and tie rods....

But, i dont know if i have power steering or not?

I think so, but is there a sure way to tell?

Sorry for the sillyness of the question, but i've looked online, and cant find a good answer.

many thanks

Laura
