Front wheel bearings are a fraction of the size or rear wheel bearings. They are also probably subject to more stress. On most cars I have ever owned, front wheel bearings seem to be a 70,000 mile item at best. I have never replaced Vanagon rear wheel bearings and have 386,000 on my diesel Westy. On most cars, you would have to drive one a long time to see a real wheel bearing problem.
