Hi Eric. I have found no difference in power between the two. If I recall a 1.9 is 82 hp and a 2.1 is 95? Going by my lousy memory. I have an automatic transmission.

If I recall at the time parts to rebuild a 1.9 were not available. Bearings I think. And given that I'm in vanagon no mans land it just seemed better to get a new rebuild from an expert. I'm a stock kinda guy but today I might be convinced to go with a GoWesty motor instead. Getting a Subaru reminds me of my pacemaker - something foreign in my chest :)

Wish I could get better mileage. Sometimes I wonder if different wheels and a taller third gear would help (apparently Subaru conversions like the taller gear?)

He seemed to think his 1.9 was close enough that I keep considering maybe just getting my 1.9 re built by one of our skilled list members. > > So, what real differences in power are there? > > And, are there any benefits to my earlier 1.9? > > Eric Caron > 85 GL Auto >
