I finally replaced my clapped-out 1.9 in my 1984 Westfalia with a barely-used 2.1 and the difference was (to me) spectacular. It pulls up hills in third gear for which the 1.9 had to use second. In British Colu,bia where I live, that makes a huge difference. But you lose a bit on fuel economy, possibly from driving that bit faster.
