Dera Thrift Shoppers
My first was a 70 Loaf that i found the guts of a westfailia and filled to
make a camper -
It was a trade off from girlfriends brother - the engine was tired and lots
of missing bits - so i replaced much -
That was named TIN CAN Tourist - and TIN CAN Tourist became the delinquint
child of our split -
Oh well -
Then with new wife in 2005 we bought a 1989 California model 5 speed Diesel
- very sweet vanagon - as you all recall fell off the road in 2009 at just
prior to christmas @ Wamsutter Why Owe Ming - -- That van cost 20 K cdn to
buy and was worth every penny -
the new engine in 2008 cost nearly 7K USd installed --- (Thanks WagonWerks
in Garden City Ida Ho )-- The insurance co tried to offer me 4K cdn for it
- Thanks to Lucas at Go westy - and threat of legal action from me they
recanted and at least gave purchase price even though i had a policy where
i paid considerable more to have it insured for 36K
I bought a 83.5 Vanagon in Chico -- we did not love it and it did not love
us - had to put a different engine in right away and that cost several days
plus $$ (Thanks Tom (Father Tom ) -
That sat in our yard for a long time before i sodl it to a sheep farmer who
loves it -- and it loves them -- they call me when ever they have an issue
...lol.. not often
we are now seeking our next one -- seen loads of duds and loads of
lipsticked oinkers -- all asking for huge $$ --
SO much like boats -- the ask and the sell are vastly different --
People who go on some internet site and ask crazy $$ will never tell what
they sold for or if the vehicel sold --
there are lots of unsuspecting folks who will purchase a lipsticked oinker
and think they got a heck of a deal -
there are loads of people who rage agaisnt capitalism while they knock on
the doors of a business for support for non profit cause -
There are loads of people who think there is a conspiracy agaisnt them
personally by a nighbour or a group --- the good news is i do not have to
be associated with any of those groups - unless i choose -
There are loads of people who believe the only way to travel the world is
by Westfailia --
You are free to assoicate as you please --
Moreover in all of this the $$$ you spend on your vanagon do not increase
selling price -- the $$ you spend on your vanagon do little more then
extend your ride -- and make your ride show better at the curb on sale day
than the one who spent nothing --
Go Westy is unusaul in $ ask because they rebuild the whole van by hand -
you are now driving a rols royce as it were and the price reflects it --
and we often see vangons offered second hand by Go Westy -- the same van as
they sold some years before -- but here is the difference -- between your
average seller and Go Westy --
Go Westy offers extensive history of van with purchase price - price of
each part installed and mark up % clearly stated -- All documented and
photgraphed - then parks van on lot to await next owner -
Average Seller takes one or two pictures has a shoe box with most reciepts
and claims to have spent a crapper load of $$ while driving van across
country three times with two dogs and a host of questionalble escapapdes
not suitable for family friendly blog --
