Sure, I'd contribute purchases from 2011 ('85 camper $7500) and 2014 ('87 camper $13,750). To be useful they need to be organized by state and have some info on condition. I'd also be interested in what people have invested in their vans since purchase (parts and DIY or professional work separated).
Maybe the easiest thing is a Survey Monkey poll with all the pertinent questions, price ranges, investment, etc. that could be promoted on the FB page too.
West coast prices are also much higher than anywhere else in the country.
I have a PDF of a Monroney sticker from an '85 Westy full camper identical to mine, and it's $19,485 list price. POE was Jacksonville, and was sold by Rich Hodges VW in Huntsville, AL. I'll bet it sold for at least that.
That's $45,000 in 2017 dollars, so VW campers were never cheap! I also have a brochure from the late '80s for the Vanagon Camper, and the people in the photos are in their late 50's or early 60's. No children shown, they would be the grandchildren if there were!

I'm a relative newcomer to the community.
I invested a huge amount of time/energy trolling Samba, Craigslist and Ebay for a "good deal" before finally taking the plunge on a 1985 Weekender last October. I still periodically follow the various marketplaces - and remain puzzled by the significant variability in "asking prices" - especially on Samba. I should probably disclose that I am a procurement professional by day (which may explain my weird obsession with market pricing).
I suspect that most of us would be keen to have access to market data on Vanagon prices. Perhaps the more interesting question is whether there are enough of us willing to disclose what we paid for our van(s).
I think it wouldn't be terribly difficult to manage such a database on an anonymous basis. There's no need to list names of buyers or sellers.
I'd certainly be willing to contribute the 'data' from my purchase - heck, I'd even be happy to compile a database (assuming there's interest).
Anyone else interested?
