NADA numbers are from licensed used car dealer sales, which include GoWesty, Poptop Heaven (no longer sell Vanagons though) VW dealers, and many other exotic and collector car stores as well as plain old used car dealers smart enough to know what they have. Once in a while I see nice Vanagon Westies for sale in the NW on dealer lots ranging from the low $20,000s and up. Way up.

Their prices are generally higher because of the implied warranty and safety standards that dealers have to meet.

No way to know what private party sales are, but I blame GoWesty for the inflated expectations. Their prices can be justified, but not so much many of the private party prices.

Jim Felder, As you must know, NADA listings are based on sales, not not what is asked.

The prices people are getting and paying reflect two things, methinks (besides variables related to the vehicles themselves, things like condition): 1) The cult status of Vanagons, and 2) simple inflation.
