There are many different ways for auxiliary battery systems to be installed. For an 87 Wolfsburg weekender you may have the factory set up for an auxiliary battery to support the portable refrigerator. The relay for that is usually under the driver's seat. The original relay set up uses a combination of the alternator activation and warning light system along with interface with the starter solenoid. Most likely it is not working correctly with the Subaru alternator. You will need a different control solution.

I have become very fond of automatic charge relays that are voltage controlled. There are a number of choices out there. I would suggest that you find a good RV-Marine electrician to set you up or do some research, get some help and do a proper upgrade.

My auxiliary battery is no longer re-charging. We replaced both batteries, and for a while things were fine (until the auxiliary ran down). Any idea where I should start my search? In an '87 Wolfsburg Weekender converted with a subarub engine.
