Yep. rigid for sure. Maine is as tough, maybe worse.

When on the lift, the tire moves freely side to side and up and down. the tires are passenger tires, not rated for the weight of the van. the mechanic says passenger tires are 4 ply and i need 6 ply

The rubber boot on the tie rod is also falling off. When driving over bumps there is also a strange creaking noise (maybe not related to the steering rack... but another issue)

I thought if i am going to replace the rack and pinion, and one tie rod, i may as well do the whole steering rack, and both tie rods.

The rear axles are making bad noises when driving. i would describe it almost like there is a rock in my rear tires, a sort of quite-ish ticking... not coming from the engine. (i think the sound is axle related) But the mechanic says that again, on the lift, he can just about separate the axle with his hands which isn't good.

Sadly, i dont know enough about mechanics, i am simply trusting the guy... He does have a good reputation, and seems like a nice guy.

P.s. he is NOT a VW mechanic though, there isn't one near me.

Thanks y'all

Laura
